Students from Zhytomyr and Zhytomyr Oblast took part in the Second Youth Regional Debate Tournament, which took place on May 10, 2018 in Zhytomyr.
Tournament organizer: Youth NGO “Modern Format” within the framework of the UNDP project “Civil Society for the Development of Democracy and Human Rights”, funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as in cooperation with the Main Territorial Department of Justice in Zhytomyr Oblast (project “I WANT TO RIGHT! »)
The participants in the annual debate were invited to debate themes that are in line with the UN Millennium Development Goals 2016-2030 and relate to human rights. Debate tournament was held in the format of parliamentary debates.
Participation in the tournament took 8 teams (32 participants) from Zhytomyr, Korostyshev and Emilchin, including:
- University students: Zhytomyr National Agroecological University and Zhytomyr State Technological University;
- pupils of technical colleges, colleges and lyceums: lyceum at Zhytomyr State Technological University; Zhytomyr Commercial College of Business and Law; Zhytomyr Automobile and Highway College of the National Transport University;
- students of gymnasiums: Zhytomyr City Humanitarian Gymnasium №23; Emilchin high school; Korostyshiv Humanitarian Gymnasium №5.
The victory in the Second Youth Regional Debate Tournament was won by:
1st place and the winner’s cup – students of Zhytomyr city humanitarian gymnasium №23.
2nd place – Lyceum students at Zhytomyr State Technological University.
3rd place – students of the Emilchin high school.
All participants in the tournament have received certificates and gifts from our regular partner – Quest Room. The winners of the tournament were awarded with diplomas and gifts from our partners: Quest Room (free quests in the quest room), Archery Association (archery master classes), Bereginya Polissya (riding lessons).
The tournament was held in three rounds, the third round – the final. Judges in the tournament were carried out by: specialists from the Chief Regional Office of Justice in Zhytomyr oblast – Olena Shabinska and Tetyana Buchynska, deputy chief of human rights protection in the bodies of the National Police of Ukraine – Eugene Vygovsky, specialist of the Zhytomyr Oblast Employment Center – Oleksandr Sukhovetsky, Public Sector of the Patrol Police of Ukraine in Zhytomyr – Sergiy Zhukovetsky, Project Manager, Youth Public Organization “Modern Format” – Marina Xynak, deputy District Council Bogunskiy – Nicholas Cherednik.
Communication work with the teams in preparation for the tournament was carried out by the unchanging inspiration of the debate in Zhytomyr – Igor Kipenko.

Recall that in December 2017, IHO “Modern Format” signed a memorandum with partners on the need to improve and deepen cooperation on the development of the debate in Zhytomyr and Zhytomyr region as an important tool in shaping the critical thinking of the younger generation.
